Outreach Ministry History
St. Francis Outreach
ministry was first organized in the parish in 1979 as an outgrowth from
the original
St
Vincent de Paul conference. The mission of SFO is namely to care for
those in need in our community.
St
Francis thrift store, as we know it today, was organized in 1986.
Proceeds from the thrift store are
used to provide emergency rent, utility or other financial assistance to
those in need.
The food pantry also has been an integral part of the assistance
provided by SFO Ministry.
Many families are assisted through these resources. Through the effort
of many volunteers and the generosity
of
the parish family, the thrift store and food pantry have developed into
one of the outstanding emergency
assistance centers in the Grapevine area today.
No specialized training
is required for some opportunities. And orientation for those assisting
in the thrift store
or the food pantry is
provided when one becomes a volunteer. training is held for those
wishing to
serve as a caseworker
which are those who interview clients seeking financial assistance.
Time commitment varies
based on the tasks and/ or projects. Volunteers are scheduled by the
volunteer coordinator
according to the availability of the volunteer and the needs of the
outreach ministry.
A monthly calendar and
assignments are made according to projects in progress at the time. |
