Until we added additional
parking places, it was difficult to find a parking place at some
masses. However, recently we did a survey of the parking lot during
masses and found that there were many empty parking places. Why?
Because people were parking in places other than the St. Francis Parking
Lot.
A
favorite location to park is the front lawn at the Narthex (Area A).
This is causing damage to the landscape. In fact, repairs caused by
parking damage to the lawn and sprinkler system have been costly for the
parish. A solution has been suggested to plant shrubs along the street,
which will hopefully stop vehicles from pulling on the lawn. Besides
the cost of the shrubs and planting them, this could be a loss to St.
Francis if the city decides at a later date to expand the road and tear
up all the shrubs. There are also signs posted by the city of Grapevine
calling for No Parking along Wildwood Lane, which could lead to
parishioner’s vehicles getting ticketed or towed away. We really want
to avoid any additional costs to anyone in the parish, however they are
acquired.
Another favorite parking area is across the street in another church’s
parking lot (Area B). There are three different congregations meeting
there at different times on Sundays, and using their lot means
difficulty for them. Their church leaders have frequently asked that we
refrain, in Christian charity, from using their lot. Stealing their
parking spaces doesn’t make a good reputation for Catholics.
All of this was resolved by the additional parking spaces that have
already been added to the St. Francis parking lot (Area C). There were
about 60 spaces added to our parking, and each space cost roughly
$1000. We need everyone’s help as we have been spending money to solve
the parking problems, but maybe we need to find better ways to educate
the parish so we do not continue to incur new costs associated with
parking on the lawn. We need to remember our Christian faith, and to
exhibit a bit more courtesy in the way we treat one another, our parish
and our community.
Please help the St. Francis Parish and Community by
parking in OUR parking lot and NOT on the lawn and
Other’s lots.
